While it's impossible to ride year-round in some climates, we believe that enjoying as much of the changing colors of fall and the burgeoning foliage of spring from the saddle as possible is one of best reasons for riding, period. With Sugoi's Evolution MidZero Bib Tights, you'll be able to stay on the road during the last gasps of fall, the first fruits of spring, and the bright winter afternoons between them.
The Evolution is singularly focused on keeping you warm. To that end, Sugoi makes use of MidZero fabric, which traps warmth and wicks moisture with its soft, brushed lining. MidZero helps you stay comfortable in dry conditions ranging down to around 35 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on your personal tolerance for cold. That's a temperature at which many of us choose to forsake the road for the indoor trainer. There are some bib tights that will keep you warm at lower temperatures, but they tend to be far pricier than the Evolution and fill a very limited niche in your gear wardrobe.
The construction features flat seams that alleviate abrasion and, in a piece of engineering genius, curve around your kneecap instead of riding straight down the center of your leg. This is definitely the part of your body that will suffer most from seam friction in other bibs, but by skirting your knee, the seams of the Evolution skirt that problem. Elastic leg grips keep the seam where it's supposed to be, so it doesn't incessantly ride up as you pedal down the road.
The tights are finished up top with bib straps made of the lightly compressive Piston 200 material, and Sugoi's own RC Pro chamois handles ass-to-saddle duties. While both are designed to keep you comfortable during long hours in the saddle, the RC Pro's job is arguably a more complicated one, so we'll dwell on it briefly. It's path to comfort goes through three particular locales: stretch, ventilation, and—of course—cushion.
Stretch and breathability are handled by a combination of ventilated foam and four-way stretch panels that move with your skin rather than against it, and a V-Notch in the back lets the ischial portions rise and fall separately to accommodate your pedal stroke. Those ischial panels are separated by a pressure-relief channel, a design that bears the load where you want it and not where you don't.
