Question

Hey Lipson... Happy New Year.... looking at this Army Bag - I USED to do a LOT of winter backpacking - the colder the better and I used an army down bag.. now this was back in the 80's when there really weren't a lot of down bag mfg'ers... I already have a good quality 800 fill bag... but I am interested in this new "Under Quilt movement" I am thinking about this army bag as an underquilt... maybe even slide by mattress inside it... I know you're just selling this but you think this would be a good purchase? Also... any reason why this bag couldn't be stuffed into a small stuff sack? Appreciate your time.... SalewaRick in PA

Answer

I also did ALOT of winter camping Yellowstone in dead of winter is pretty cold.Maybe it 's me but can you ask what you want ? Are you asking if the Army bag will go into a smaller stuff sack ?

Question

Oops! Sorry, I guess I was babbling - IS this bag down or a synthetic fill

Answer

DOWN What are you looking to do with the bag????

Question

I am thinking about using it as an under quilt with my mattress AND my main down bag. For that price.. and if it IS a true higher quality US Army bag - I know that it's great for winter. AND it'll compress down to fit in a small stuff sack...

Answer

First what Brand model of down bag do you own ?It is a true US Army down bag but I don't think it will go into a SMALL stuff sack think the bag is rated to -40 for 4 hrs(Army rating),The Army bag goes in a roll about 16 by 11 inches. Anything else ?

Question

What is the weight of the bag? Does it come with a stuff sack?

Answer

looks like 6 pounds on my fish scale . It is wrapped in cling wrap and has a huge The North Face storage bag. I think i've got one compression stuff sack that would fit it.

Question

Any idea what the temperature rating of this bag is?

Answer

Military bags were rated for 4 hours . Not 8 hrs. As I recall these bags were rated at -30 degrees

Question

Hey I read some of the previous questions and does the bag come with some sort of stuff sack? Is it super bulky in the stuff sack or is it small enough to be backpackable? Thanks!
